About Us

OSHA was established in August 31, 2001 under the executive agency’s Act No. 30, of 1997 with the aim of improving safety and health of workers and workplaces in Tanzania through implementing the Occupational Safety and Health Act No. 5 of 2003. The agency’s major roles include registering workplaces, conducting statutory Safety and Health inspections at workplaces, conducting fitness to work medical checkups to workers, conducting work environment (hygiene) measurements and issuing annual compliance license to occupiers attaining minimum requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 2003. Other responsibilities are scrutinizing workplace drawings, conducting training on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at workplaces, educating the general public on OHS issues, providing consultancy on OHS, investigating accidents and diseases caused by one’s engagement in specific works.
